PERILS Revises Loss Estimate for November 2025 Storms in Queensland and NSW

PERILS Revises Loss Estimate for November 2025 Storms in Queensland and NSW

In a recent update, catastrophe data provider PERILS has increased its insurance industry loss estimate for the severe convective storms that struck Queensland and New South Wales between November 21 and 27, 2025.
The revised estimate now stands at AU$2.95 billion, marking an 11% rise from the initial figure of AU$2.663 billion released in January 2026.

The storms, which impacted a vast region from Brisbane to Sydney, brought large hail, damaging winds, and intense rainfall. The most significant event occurred on November 24 in South East Queensland, where hailstones up to 14 cm in diameter caused extensive damage to properties and vehicles, and disrupted power supply to approximately 160,000 homes and businesses.

PERILS' updated estimate encompasses losses from both property and motor hull lines of business, based on data collected from affected insurers. This substantial increase underscores the severity of the storms and the financial burden on the insurance sector.

For truck operators and logistics businesses, these events highlight the critical importance of comprehensive insurance coverage. Severe weather can lead to significant operational disruptions, vehicle damage, and financial losses. Ensuring that insurance policies adequately cover such risks is essential for maintaining business continuity.

As climate patterns continue to evolve, the frequency and intensity of such severe weather events may increase. Truck operators are advised to regularly review their insurance policies, assess their risk management strategies, and consider additional coverage options to safeguard against future incidents.

Staying informed about industry developments and collaborating with experienced insurance brokers can help businesses navigate the complexities of insurance coverage and ensure they are adequately protected against unforeseen events.
